There’s a new black ribbon running through my town it pulls in people from miles around
The green party says that it’s a crime but it gets me to work on time.
See those headlights when the sun goes down, they’re all driving in to Blackburn Town.
A local match is on at Ewood Park and there gonna play it while it’s dark
Now I’ve got lots of money ‘cause I just got paid, so I’m traveling down this new highway
I used to have a drink in my younger days but now I have to mend my ways
I get a little tired by the end of the day when driving down this new highway
I know it’s faster for getting home but it’s funny how I feel alone.
We have no money once we’ve paid our bills we work a little extra for our weekend thrills.
The Boss man thinks that we all like our work yet he still treats us all like dirt
Still I’ve got lots of money ‘cause I just got paid, so I’m traveling down this new highway
I used to have a drink in my younger days but now I have to mend my ways
Boss man, boss man; leave me alone no matter what you say I’m heading home
I’d like to shove your face on in the dirt but I’d be the one who’s hurt
This new black ribbon’s running through my town it pulls in traffic from miles around
Although I’m home at the end of the day I feel I must have lost my way
Ah well! I’ve got lots of money ‘cause I just got paid, so I’m traveling down this new highway.
I used to have a drink in my younger days but now I have to mend my ways
Performance: Lead Vocal – Dave Green; Harmony – Paul Craven; Bass – Wayne McDonald; Acoustic Guitar(s) - Kevin Cookson
Songwriter’s Notes: Recent history brought a motorway (a black ribbon of tarmac laid on the land between Darwen & Blackburn) to my town – it’s quite a spectacle when viewed at dusk as everyone makes their way home from work.
