Bar by the River (5:11)

I’m sat all alone in this bar by the river, got used to the cold though it sure makes me shiver lights going dim, mists rolling in. I fear I won’t see her this night. There’s a crowd in the room and they see what I see. Ha! The drunk in the corner, the soap on TV, a boat on the river she lets out a cry, the sound in the moonlight of lost souls gone by and this old bar stool should know me by now; I’ve sat here for hours alone in this crowd. A voice deep inside says leave here right now but I don’t know the river or where I’d be bound. No, I don’t know where I’m bound; I don’t know where I’m bound.

Cats in the corner with remains of the day, the barman jokes wildly but he knows what to say, the old man steps by the drunk on the floor as I glance once again at the door. The crowd in the room they see what I see as boats on the river they head out to sea. I remember her face on a cold winter’s night but like boats on the river we've passed in the night and this old bar stool should know me by now; I’ve sat here for hours alone in this crowd. This voice deep inside says leave here right now but I don’t know the river or the place that I’m bound. No, I don’t know where I’m bound; I don’t know where I’m bound

The old man keeps talking of life that’s gone by, I’d stay with him longer but I must say goodbye, the stories they tell of a life lived at sea and sometimes I think he means me. The crowd in the room they see what I see the mist on the water, the rust on the Quay. I’ve waited too long on this cold misty night on a bet that she’d show, on the strength that she might and this old bar stool should know me by now, I’ve sat here for hours alone in this crowd. Now as I stand gonna leave here right now, though I ain’t got directions to the place that I’m bound. No, I don’t know where I’m bound, there’s solitude in crowds. There’s solitude in crowds

Performance: Paul - Vocal; Kevin - Acoustic Guitar

Songwriter's Notes: I was on a real downer when I wrote this song and initially there were many swear words in it. Paul made me clean up my act and to be honest it still stands up without the profanities.
