The Lost Children (3:25)

The rain is at our window, shadows on our stairs. The children all are sleeping now, safe within our care. A little face appears upon our doorstep in the rain. As if the angels knew to tap, upon our window pain … We were there ...
And yes we knew these children I’d say we knew them well, we held them in our arms on nights their teardrops fell and they spoke of all their heartache in the stories they would tell, so many of those stories to dwell.

And as we took them in our home, and in our lives to share. There was pain and love and laughter, upon those very stairs. There were far too many children, far too many to remain. We couldn’t keep them all with us, so we lost them once again ... But we were there …
I guess we knew these children, yes we knew them well, we held them in our arms, on the nights their teardrops fell and when they spoke of heartache, in the stories they would tell. Of other lives and futures we’d sell

Some extraordinary days, in very ordinary lives, we’d seven children on our arms, as we walked the countryside; and as I look back o’er those years, to all the love we gave, we were far too busy helping them, our own sanity to save ... But we were there …
Of course we knew these children, yes we knew them well, we held them in our arms, on nights their teardrops fell and we gave them so much love, ‘cause we knew they’d been to hell and in our hearts they always will dwell … Yes in our hearts they always will dwell

Performance: Lead Vocal – Paul Craven; Harmony – Dave Green; Bass & Harmony – Wayne McDonald; Acoustic Guitar(s) – Kevin Cookson

Songwriter’s Notes: We foster, we take them in and find new mums and dads – the children go from a bad place to a good place – the trouble is you get attached (no matter how hard you try not to) – yes we adopted some of them but we couldn’t take them all on! God bless ALL our children!
